I created this detoxed recipe because I wanted a sweet, buttery, chewy chocolate chip cookie that held up to any traditional chocolate chip cookie out there!  A little too sweet, slightly too much chocolate, more butter than necessary…check, check, check.  I’m powerless around chocolate chip cookies so thank goodness these are nutritious.  

I like to use the Lily’s brand sugar-free chocolate chips.  Chocolate is especially rich in flavanols like epicatechin and catechin, as well as anthocyanins and phenolic acids. All of these compounds help protect your cells from inflammation, improve your brain function, and boost your immune and cardiovascular health. Take these to any group of non-healthy eaters and no one will have a clue that these cookies are designed to improve their health.  These detoxed chocolate chip cookies are supremely delicious and so sneaky! I have made this recipe numerous times with both my Whole-Grain and Grain-Free Flour Swaps and my family is undecided which Flour Swap version they enjoy more, so you really can’t go wrong either way. 

Chocolate Chip Cookies STATS

Chocolate Chip Cookies 

Dry Ingredients:
1 ⅓  cups Flour Swap
1 cup Sugar Swap
1 ¼  teaspoons salt
½  teaspoon baking powder (double for Grain-Free)
¼ teaspoon baking soda (double for Grain-Free)


Wet Ingredients:
1 cup Butter Swap
1 Egg Swap
1 tablespoon vanilla extract


1 cup sugar-free chocolate chips (Lily’s brand is a great option)

Optional 1/2 - 1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees (325 degrees for Grain-Free).  Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Mix all dry ingredients then use a hand mixer to blend in the wet ingredients until smooth cookie dough consistency is achieved.  Use a large spoon to fold in the chocolate chips.  Make equal sized cookie balls using your medium cookie scoop then press down to flatten on your parchment lined baking tray.  

Bake for about 12 minutes or until tops start to crack and bottoms start to turn golden.  

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes on the baking tray.  You can give them a gentle press while still very warm to make them even more chewy as they cool.  Transfer to the cooling rack when they are slightly warm to fully set.

*For best taste, texture and health benefits, refrigerate all Detox Desserts overnight before indulging.  Store cookies covered in the fridge for up to 1 week or freeze for long term storage.
